One year has passed since I’ve come back to living in Kuwait, and through this whole year I’ve had exactly 0 girlfriends. I’ve hung out with girls who are friends, and was even interested in a handful of girls, but the more I got to know them the more I became uninterested. 

When I was living in the US, I dated a good number of different girls. Each girl I dated was like having an adventure. Every girl was different in their own way, and it was really fun to get to know them and find out what kind of person they were. Each and every girl had a different background and had different interests. 

Here in Kuwait, I feel like it’s exactly the opposite. Most girls are very similar, have similar backgrounds, have similar goals in life, and have similar things that they want to do. At first I would talk to a girl I thought was attractive, as with most girls, but the more I talked to them, the more I realized how similar they were to other girls and how much I disliked that. I always try to make friends first with a girl I’m interested in, and then ask them out if I like how they are. Most of the girls I’ve become friends with here in Kuwait have stayed just as friends. 

I don’t think I’m picky honestly, I’ve dated a wide range of types of girls, but I’ve always been most interested in what the girl has to think, what they talk about, and what they are interested in doing, and around here, a lot of girls just are the same in all those aspects. 

I found that a lot of girls here really like talking about their problems. Almost constant yabbering and yabbering on and on about their problems and how their life sucks, even though a lot of girls get whatever they want from their parents, like new cars, the latest cellphones, and going on weekly shopping sprees. I think that a lot of girls just like the attention they get when they’re felt sorry for or something. 

I found that a lot of girls here can’t really, nor really want to, hold an intelligent conversation. They want to talk about shopping, and they gossip A LOT. Almost every month they change friends because they have fights with the people they were hanging out with previously, and it’s usually because they were gossiping about the girl, or the girl was gossiping about her friends and was caught.  

I found that a lot of girls here are interested in “bad boys.” Like they want guys that will treat them like shit/cheat on them, see them behind the back of their parents and at late hours, or they want guys that will introduce them to more “fun things” here in Kuwait. A lot of girls are just not interested in going out with a normal, decent guy. 

I miss having someone to talk to, and holding hands, and doing fun and amazing things with a girl I like. I miss dating. 

3 years of constant dating in the US, and 1 year of no dating here in Kuwait. Hopefully this year will be a good year and maybe I’ll meet someone interesting.
